Background

Increasing regulations regarding stormwater volume and planning for resilience initiatives make site constraints for stormwater storage through infiltration, retention, and detention more challenging throughout the country. The R-Tank Stormwater Retention System, with 95% void space, provides the means to achieve storage goals within available depths. Furthermore, it accommodates complex or restricted footprints/layouts.

Project Scope

The All Saints’ Episcopal Day School in Phoenix, AZ, was experiencing challenges hosting sporting events. This was because their field also served as a surface retention basin. Consequently, the field would become inundated and unusable after rainfall events. In November 2024, Ferguson Waterworks partnered with Frontier Golf, using innovative stormwater modules to prevent the field from flooding.

Solution

To rectify the issue, the school decided to replace the basin with an underground retention vault. Frontier Golf was brought on board to help implement a cost-effective solution. After exploring multiple systems, Ferguson Waterworks’ subsurface R-Tank system was chosen. Due to its modular, easy-to-retrofit nature, coupled with a robust design, the system was able to retain 62,049 CF of water.

What advantages do stormwater retention tanks, like R-Tank, provide?

Beyond conventional applications, R-Tank also complements green infrastructure and low-impact designs. An initiative favored by municipalities and private developments. Utilize R-Tank under permeable surfaces, in linear green street projects, for expanded storage beneath green infrastructure, or combined with innovative media systems to provide water quality treatment.

“The R-Tank system installed at the All Saints’ Day School went in smoothly and efficiently thanks to the quality product and the seamless coordination between Frontier Golf and the Ferguson Team. R-Tank addressed the City of Phoenix’s retention requirements while transforming an unusable retention area into a fabulous soccer field and playground, with a softball field soon to follow. I would recommend both R-Tank and the Ferguson Team for water storage solutions where surface area is limited. After recent heavy rains, R-tank performed just as it should have, making the area ready for use after the storm was over. I could not have been more pleased.”

ShearForce 10 installed beneath and around operational solar panels in order to prevent erosion.

With solar panels in place and operational, an immediate and effective erosion control solution was imperative. Especially considering the panels were positioned next to channels, drip lines, and spillways.
