Project Overview

More than 5,000 new residents settled in Georgetown, Texas last year. Consequently, the water demand increased and will likely continue on that trajectory. That’s why the South Lake Water Treatment Plant decided to construct a new 44 MGF (million gallons per day) water treatment facility. The facility is comprised of approximately 31,000 square feet and other supporting structures.

Challenge

A large-scale project, such as constructing a treatment plant, involves a multitude of components and considerations. In order to prevent costly setbacks, proper planning using a multi-capability approach is imperative.

Solution

Ferguson Waterworks used its robust Virtual Design and Construction technologies and services to consolidate the project’s diverse requirements and variables into a single resource. With the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM), Bill of Materials (BOM), and additional VDC technologies, we helped predict roadblocks, simplify procurement and fabrication, and coordinate efforts.

What VDC software and tools does Ferguson Waterworks implement for large-scale water treatment facility projects?

  • Seamless flow of information from product/supply team to VDC and back
  • Cutting-edge Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology
  • Automatically generated Bill of Materials (BOM) for simplified procurement and fabrication
  • On-site support during installation

Method

Our dedicated Ferguson Waterworks VDC team played a critical role in this project providing comprehensive modeling and shop drawing services. Implementing our advanced technology, we generated accurate and detailed 3D scanning services for the project’s various components. For example, the models included piping, equipment, and structures. As a result, the models help identify and resolve potential conflicts and issues. Therefore, saving the South Lake Water Treatment Plant time and reducing construction costs.

In addition to the 3D renderings, the team provided a bill of materials (BOM) for all fabricated ductile-iron PVF. This ensured timely and accurate fabrication. In addition, the detailed shop drawings and automated BOM provided a comprehensive material list in order to streamline the approval and installation process. Due to our team’s technical expertise and experience with large projects, we offered a dynamic blend of both product and software knowledge.

How will choosing Ferguson Waterworks lower your total construction cost?

Our team’s models and drawings provide advanced visualization, which allows both project management and field teams to better understand complex designs. As a result, our VDC software and tools help avoid project conflicts and setbacks meanwhile facilitating better decision-making.

From planning and design to execution and delivery, the South Lake Water Treatment Plant construction project showcases our team’s commitment to delivering start-to-finish support. Our team’s strong communication and leadership skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask enabled us to provide top-notch services and support to all stakeholders involved.

Case studies - results from installing permeable paving & machine technology to get an abandoned site and parking lot up to stormwater code

In order to revitalize and meet stormwater codes, the abandoned parking area at the Shoppes at Fashion Square in Orlando, FL, required updates. With a permeable paving system and machine technology, we helped the client achieve their goals, save $1 million, and complete the project in just 10 days.

ShearForce 10 installed beneath and around operational solar panels in order to prevent erosion.

With solar panels in place and operational, an immediate and effective erosion control solution was imperative. Especially considering the panels were positioned next to channels, drip lines, and spillways.
