Project Overview

A private landowner purchased pastureland situated at 5,800 feet with saline soils and an average annual precipitation of 9.5 inches. Historically, the land was used for intensive grazing. Consequently, its soil lacked nutrients, and weeds ran rampant. The new landowner intended to change the unhealthy pastureland by rebuilding soil health, transforming the land into a regenerative cover cropping system in order to produce beneficial livestock forage and grazing opportunities. In addition, they planned to integrate flood irrigation practices.

Challenge

Russian knapweed is an aggressive invasive species in western Colorado. Not to mention it is toxic to horses. After many years of it spreading across the pasture, forage quality was poor, and the soil suffered. Because Russian knapweed is a deep-rooted perennial that spreads by aggressive, creeping, horizontal roots (rhizomes) and seeds, it is difficult to manage and eradicate.

Solution

The landowner chose to rebuild soil health and support their regenerative cover cropping strategies with NutraFix® Micronutrient Fertilizer. This soil additive restores depleted nutrient levels in soils. As a result, it helps return pastureland to productivity with an emphasis on providing forage.

Method

Firstly, the landowner’s team burned the dense patches of Russian knapweed in April 2024. After the controlled burns, 100 pounds of NutraFix Micronutrient Fertilizer was applied per acre. Then, the pasture was seeded with triticale, beardless barley, and oats. In addition, they implemented flood irrigation.

Why did they choose NutraFix to rebuild soil health for regenerative farming?

NutraFix Micronutrient Fertilizer helps transform unhealthy grazeland into nutrient-dense, regenerative pastureland. Even if the pasture is dominated by Russian knapweed, this soil additive helps seeded cover crops quickly germinate and outcompete invasive plants. Due to the success of improving soil health and establishing regenerative cover crops, in just one growing season, the landowner harvested and baled forage for his livestock.

  • Easy to apply granular fertilizer
  • Increased germination and seeded species establishment
  • Improved vegetation through micronutrient availability
  • NutraFix supports the building blocks for plant growth and nutrient cycling

Case studies - results from installing permeable paving & machine technology to get an abandoned site and parking lot up to stormwater code

In order to revitalize and meet stormwater codes, the abandoned parking area at the Shoppes at Fashion Square in Orlando, FL, required updates. With a permeable paving system and machine technology, we helped the client achieve their goals, save $1 million, and complete the project in just 10 days.

ShearForce 10 installed beneath and around operational solar panels in order to prevent erosion.

With solar panels in place and operational, an immediate and effective erosion control solution was imperative. Especially considering the panels were positioned next to channels, drip lines, and spillways.
